Where Have I come from

RI Training School Cranston, RI

RI State Training School project
There are several themes in this mural, but the theme which moves it along is “Where have we come from? Who are we? Where are we going?” The mural was designed Mika Seeger, Peter Geisser, and the students of the training school, for the 80-foot long corridor and the lobby area adjacent to the corridor. The mural in the lobby space will covers an area of 20 feet by 20 feet.

Past Points

India Point Park Playground, Providence, RI

This India Point Playground Mural. 3 feet high by 49 feet long was begun in early 2003 and was dedicated on September 18, 2004. The mural celebrates and reflects on the history of the India Point neighborhood over the past hundred and fifty years in a stoneware frieze that shows various vessels, transportation modes and buildings which have been part of the area.  Over 500 Fox Point and Providence residents of all ages,  have participated in the mural project by making tiles in workshops over the past year under the direction of artists, Mika Seeger and Peter Geisser. The mural is made of stoneware and fired in a wood-burning kiln at Mika’s Tiverton Studio.

Waves of Narragansett

The Waves of Narragansett are an apt metaphor for our attempts to define our history and ourselves. Like the changing waves, there is no one history, and as history may swell and seem to create a grand moment, it will also disappear in the very humour from whence it came.  This 92 foot long mural shows the history of Narragansett from prehistory to the present.  It was commissioned by the Gilbane Co. to frame Surfside condominiums, across from the town beach of Narragansett, RI.

RI School for the Deaf

Providence, RI

As the art teacher at the RI School for the Deaf for over 35 years, I worked with students  and teachers to integrate art into the curriculum.  The walls of the school were covered in studies of culture, history & empowerment. Students explored making murals, mosaic, stained glass, wood carving, and weaving. We created art in the school itself and in the greater RI community.

We were responsible for the Circle of Clay at Hasbro Children's Hospital, The Riverwalk registers at Waterplace park, Babylonian Lions at the RIsd Museum, and murals at RI Hospital's Potter building and the Providence Public Library.
